Tax
What we do
The Barclays Group Tax team is responsible for all taxation matters that impact Barclays. These include corporate taxes and indirect taxes such as VAT paid by the Group and taxes paid by employees and customers. Every transaction that the Group undertakes will have tax consequences and in many cases, such as mergers and acquisitions, these are very complicated. One of the key skills needed by members of the tax team is to be able to explain complex tax issues to the wider business in an accessible way.
Members of the Tax team ensure the business operates within an appropriate risk and control framework, in line with Group’s internal governance and in accordance with regulations set by fiscal authorities around the world, maintaining open working relationships with such organisations.
Based primarily in our London headquarters at Canary Wharf, the Group Tax team also deals with forecasting, planning, risk and compliance around all tax issues, including advising on the tax implications of innovations such as new products or acquisitions.
