Employees talk about their experience

"I’m in a small team but definitely feel part of a global business."

Realising colleagues’ potential, through continuous personal and career development, is key to the way Barclays does business.

Personal and professional development opportunities

When it comes to professional development, Barclays uses the 70:20:10 model. In other words we believe that 70% of learning happens on the job, 20% occurs by drawing on the knowledge of others and 10% is gained through formal learning.

This is why learning at Barclays is not confined to the classroom. Our employees benefit from a range of development opportunities from international secondments and mentoring to online education and support to pursue professional qualifications.

For those starting out their career, there are opportunities to get involved in internships, graduate schemes or MBA programmes, as well as benefiting from structured career progression plans, job rotations and international work placements.

At every stage in their career, by utilising the right learning and development for them, Barclays’ colleagues are encouraged to truly realise their full potential.

Learning Management System

Barclays Learning Management System is an online tool designed to help colleagues manage their training from a single point of entry. The system alerts users about upcoming courses relevant to their role, and maintains records of their achievements and results.

Mentor programme

Barclays encourages mentoring within the business. Skills-sharing across the global Group is actively promoted and many colleagues benefit from being part of a structured and rewarding mentoring programme.
