Rewards and benefits
Barclays colleagues all over the world enjoy a range of benefits including financial bonuses, private healthcare and flexible working, which vary depending on the region in which they're based. Tax-free share purchase schemes, childcare vouchers and up to 30 days holiday a year are just some of the rewards the business offers employees.
Remuneration
As well as a competitive, industry-benchmarked salary, many Barclays colleagues benefit from an annual discretionary bonus. The amount individuals receive depends on their own performance and that of their team. A company pension scheme is also available.
Barclays Sharepurchase scheme is a flexible, tax-free opportunity to buy Barclays shares with either a lump sum or through regular payments. And a Sharesave monthly savings plan offers a chance to buy shares in the Group at a discount of up to 20 per cent. Colleagues can invest over a period of either three, five or seven years, building up savings which can be spent on Barclays shares at a preferential price at the end of the agreement.
Flexibility
Not everyone can work standard office hours five days a week. That’s why Barclays tries to help colleagues achieve a work/life balance through flexible working practices.
These can include part-time working arrangements and the opportunity to take a career break. The options available to colleagues will depend on individual circumstances, local policy and legislative requirements, and the demands and priorities of the Business Unit or function in which employees are based.
Discounts
Colleagues in certain parts of the world benefit from ‘Exclusively Ours’ – a range of Barclays products and services offered to employees on preferential terms. Including banking products, insurance and travel services, the scheme offers comprehensive cost savings.
The Barclays Buy-A-Car scheme capitalises on Barclays buying power to get valuable discounts on Mercedes, Toyota and Renault vehicles for colleagues. And the You at Work online service offers discounts on a variety of products to suit all tastes, from theatre tickets to beauty treatments and high street shopping.
Health
Barclays offers a raft of health and wellbeing benefits. Many colleagues qualify for a medical expenses scheme, offering the comfort of access to private healthcare treatment.
An Employee Assistance programme also gives colleagues free and confidential advice on work or home worries. And to help promote vitality across the business, Barclays employees can enjoy corporate discounts with a number of major health clubs near their home or place of work, in many parts of the world.
Barclays in the community
Investing in the community is an important part of Barclays sustainability strategy.
In 2008, Barclays invested £52.2m in community projects around the world and supported more than 57,000 colleagues in 31 countries to get involved with community activities.
Banking on Brighter Futures is Barclays flagship programme, and allows the Group to use its financial skills and expertise to maximum effect to help people all over the world work towards financial independence and security. By aligning community investment to the core business, Barclays can make the maximum positive impact.
Not only is the organisation giving money, it is also using its power and capability to tackle social issues, focusing on financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, education and helping people into employment.
‘Charity Begins at Work’ is another vital component of Barclays community investment programme, supporting colleagues to get involved with causes they care about.
