Graduates and interns

Barclays seeks the brightest new recruits to inspire innovation and fresh thinking throughout the global company. As a diverse and dynamic financial services business, Barclays offers exciting opportunities for ambitious applicants.

Why join us

Barclays runs nine graduate programmes across its Global Retail and Commercial Banking Business Unit and support functions. These include placements in Barclays Commercial Bank division, Retail Banking, Marketing, Product and Distribution, Human Resources, Technology, Tax, Treasury, and Barclaycard. The programmes vary in length from 12 months to three years, and the grades required for application vary depending on the business area.

An eight-week summer internship scheme also runs for students in their penultimate year, or final-year students who plan to take a gap year after graduation and are expecting the equivalent of a 2:1 degree in any discipline. This programme provides valuable work experience and potentially a fast-track offer to one of Barclays graduate programmes. Summer internships are available in six business areas: Barclaycard Credit Risk, Human Resources, Technology, Tax, Retail Banking and Barclays Commercial Bank.

In the Investment Banking and Investment Management (IBIM) Business Unit, programmes at Barclays Capital, Barclays Global Investors and Barclays Wealth offer 10-week summer internships and graduate positions in Europe, Asia, the USA and the Middle East. All are designed to ensure new recruits reach their full potential, working towards internationally recognised professional qualifications and developing an excellent understanding of how best to meet clients’ needs.

Absa, a South African-based bank majority-owned by Barclays, also runs a one-year graduate programme.

Rewards and benefits

Although each graduate programme differs, depending on location, specialism and Business Unit, Barclays commitment to excellent training, competitive rewards and inspiring work is evident in every area of the Group.

Career progression

Even the most talented graduates need strong support to realise their full potential, and each graduate programme offers a range of training and development opportunities designed to identify and enhance each candidate’s strengths.
