  • Programme overview

The programme launched in 2004 in the UK and has now delivered 200 community sports sites in partnership with two charities, the Football Foundation and Groundwork-an organisation committed to environmental regeneration.

Barclays Spaces for Sports was extended in 2008 to include more countries where Barclays operates. Sports sites and projects have already been established in South Africa, the United States, Spain and Zambia, with a further site under development in China. More sites and projects will be announced in other countries.

We are also working with the Football Foundation to ensure the 200 UK sites become self-supporting with a sustainable future.

  • Our partners

We partner with organisations around the world, working with specialists to ensure Barclays Spaces for Sports sites and projects meet the needs of local communities.

  • Our investment

We've invested more than £37m in Barclays Spaces for Sports since its launch in 2004 - the biggest ever investment in grassroots sport by a private sector company in the UK.

Additional investment from our partners includes more than £30m investment from the Football Foundation, bringing the total to more than £67m.

  • Seeking support?

In 2004 Barclays Spaces for Sports set out to develop 200 sustainable sports sites and distribute 3,600 coaching packs across the UK. These objectives have now been met, so unfortunately we are unable to support any further requests for donations or equipment.

More than 500,000 people in the UK now use Barclays Spaces for Sports sites, and as the programme expands globally, further communities are set to benefit from sports centres and initiatives designed to engage and inspire young people in countries around the world where Barclays has a presence, and where a need for such support has been identified.

Our partner organisations, who have helped design and deliver Barclays Spaces for Sports activities, may be able to offer you further advice or support for your project. Click on the link below for further information.
