Barclays has partnered with Room to Read since 2008 and has committed £1m to the programme during 2011 and 2012 through the Clinton Global Initiative

This will help establish an estimated 159 school libraries in Nepal, Sri Lanka and India and help children gain access to culturally relevant books by printing 25 new books in local languages that are written and illustrated by local authors and artists.

As a result of Room to Read’s work, nearly one million girls and one million boys will have access to enhanced educational resources. Our contribution supports literacy for those among the 796 million people who can’t read, over two-thirds of whom are girls and women.

About Room to Read

Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organisations and governments, Room to Read aims to improve literacy and the habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.
