In 2009, we worked with one of our logisitics suppliers, TNT, and Lloyds Banking Group, who also use TNT, to reduce the environmental impact of delivering internal mail.

TNT developed a secure system for both banking groups to share internal mail deliveries, removing 45 vehicles from operation, cutting delivery costs and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1,643 tonnes as at the end of 2009. Barclays, TNT and Lloyds Banking Group received the Partners in Corporate Social Responsibility Award from Premises and Facilities Management magazine in recognition of the scheme.

Judges at Premises and Facilities Management said: “The partnership had clearly measurable results, delivering impressive cost savings and significant environmental savings.”

A similar arrangement with Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland means we also now share air transport for deliveries to the Isle of Man.
