Barclays in Italy
Barclays has a major presence in Italy, and its operations across the country have grown dramatically in recent years.
Since 2006, Barclays has opened 96 new branches, employing more than 1,000 people. Now 87 Barclays-owned financial ‘shops’ also offer a range of products and services including mortgages through Banca Woolwich.
Barclaycard launched in Italy in 2002, and there are now more than 400,000 cards in issue there.
Barclays Corporate also has a presence in Italy, with dedicated areas for business clients in 23 branches.
Barclays Premier launched in June 2008, with the inauguration of a flagship Premier branch in Milan.
Barclays Capital launched its Italian investment banking operations in late 1997. Leveraging the firm's traditional strengths across investment banking and global markets, Barclays Capital has become Italy's number-one specialist in government bonds, and is well-positioned to benefit from the expansion in European equities and mergers and acquisitions platform.
Barclays Wealth has operated in Italy since 2003.
In Italy, Barclays offers:
- Retail banking: everyday banking for individuals through a network of branches and outlets, including a flagship Premier branch in Milan
- Corporate banking: Barclays Italy offers full business banking services to corporate clients
- Barclaycard: provides customers nationwide with credit card facilities
- Barclays Capital: provides large corporate, government and institutional clients with a full spectrum of solutions to their strategic advisory, financing and risk management needs
- Barclays Wealth: provides affluent, high net-worth and intermediary clients worldwide with private banking, investment management, fiduciary services and brokerage.
