Barclays in Mozambique

Barclays has had a presence in Mozambique since 2002, when Absa (majority-owned by Barclays) acquired an 80 per cent stake in local bank Banco Austral. Now branded Barclays Bank Mozambique, the business offers personal and commercial banking, and has become one of the largest retail banks in the country, with representation in every major province through a network of more than 55 branches.

Barclays employs colleagues in branches, offices and savings posts across Mozambique. Its national head office is in Maputo, the country’s capital and largest city.

In Mozambique, Barclays businesses include:

  • Retail banking: everyday personal banking, including debit cards, savings accounts and loans
  • Commercial banking: offers business banking services, including the Cash Passport card, which can be pre-loaded with foreign currency.
