Barclays in Indonesia

Barclays Capital opened its office in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital city, in 2005.

In 2008, Barclays Capital acted as one of the joint bookrunners for the Republic of Indonesia's US$2bn two-tranche global bond issue. The deal gained favourable market recognition and won the following awards:

  • Asiamoney - Best Sovereign Bond
  • The Asset - Best Deal, Indonesia Award (country awards) and Best Sovereign Bond (regional awards).

In 2009, Barclays completed the acquisition of PT Bank Akita, a privately-owned retail and commercial bank with ten outlets in three major cities across Indonesia.

In Indonesia, Barclays business comprises:

  • Barclays Capital: provides large corporate, government and institutional clients with a full spectrum of solutions to their strategic advisory, financing and risk management needs
  • Retail banking: upon completion of the PT Bank Akita acquisition
  • Commercial banking: upon completion of the PT Bank Akita acquisition.
