Gender diversity at Barclays
Barclays commitment to gender equality across the business is reflected through a number of initiatives designed to promote and support women in the workplace.
International networks
Women’s networks have been established by Barclays colleagues all over the world. Among them, the Barclays Capital Women’s Internal Network includes has members worldwide, including more than 700 colleagues in the UK alone.
In Barclaycard, a thriving Senior Women’s Network provides support and mentoring for female colleagues at every career level. And in Italy, Barclays teams have created links with the world-renowned Bocconi business school, which provides tailored training to female colleagues.
Barclays Global Investors Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) has more than 600 members and groups in the UK, USA and Australia. And Barclays Wealth’s WIN has over 300 members based all over the world.
Empowering women in developing markets
A Women’s Leadership Programme for Barclays Global Retail and Commercial Banking Emerging Markets Business Unit launched in 2009. A group of five women, from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana and India, started secondments lasting between three and 12 months, based at the Emerging Markets head office in Dubai, UAE, as part of the scheme.
Independent recognition
In 2008, The Times newspaper listed Barclays as one of the top 50 places in the UK where women want to work, for the third year running. Barclays also won a special award for the best retention initiative for women.
Women of the Year Awards
Barclays Women of the Year Awards recognise exceptional personal and professional achievements from women across the UK business. The event is run in conjunction with Barclays sponsorship of the international Women of the Year Award.
