Funding fuel-efficient stoves in Africa
In 2007 we supported a programme to replace open-fire cooking pots with energy efficient stoves at 500 orphanages and schools in Lesotho, helping reduce local deforestation and saving approximately 10 tonnes of CO2 emissions per stove each year.
Barclays International Climate Challenge (BICC)
Our three-year programme to educate young people about climate change has won support from governments in the UK and Kenya, the first two countries in which the initiative has launched. BICC is to reach schools in India, South Africa and the USA by 2010.

Barclays Capital's Emission Trading Desk is one of the largest providers of liquidity in the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme. The firm has traded more than one billion tonnes of carbon credits.
Solar-powered solutions
We're backing a scheme to make solar power accessible to communities across rural Kenya, benefiting schools, clinics and communal buildings, and training local people to build simple solar devices.
