Memberships
Barclays is a member of a number of organisations and institutions which aim to manage risks relating to environmental issues and climate change.
We engage in public policy debate on these issues, believing that – as a global business – we have a responsibility to do so.
We continue to be in dialogue with governments, regulators and other stakeholders in the markets in which we operate.
Our memberships include:
The Confederation of British Industry’s Climate Change Taskforce
Barclays Group Chairman Marcus Agius represents Barclays on this panel, which comprises chairmen and chief executives from some of the UK’s biggest companies. It aims to set the agenda on how businesses tackle climate change.
In 2007, we joined other Climate Change Taskforce member companies in pledging to develop new products focused on reducing carbon emissions. Since then Barclaycard has launched a range of products which reward business and personal customers for making environmentally aware purchases.
HRH The Prince of Wales’ Rainforest Project
We join businesses, governments, non-government organisations and individuals as a member of the Rainforest Project’s steering group. The project seeks to prevent deforestation.
Preserving rainforests has been recognised as the most cost-effective way to combat the effects of climate change by a number of influential reports.
The Climate Group
As a member of The Climate Group, we share ideas and best practice on the issue with senior leaders from businesses and governments.
The Environment Council
We support non-government organisation The Environment Council, and share best practice in sustainability with fellow members.
