Our governance framework
Sustainability is one of the foundation stones of Barclays strategy and is managed within a framework of internal control, governance and risk management processes.
Barclays Group Chief Executive
Barclays Group Chief Executive John Varley has primary responsibility for embedding sustainability throughout the Group.
Group Executive Committee
The Group Executive Committee is responsible for Barclays sustainability strategy and supporting John Varley, Group Chief Executive, in its implementation. This includes ensuring there are effective processes in place for identifying and monitoring all the business risks or commercial opportunities that have a social, environmental or economic dimension.
There is regular performance reporting to the Group Executive Committee and Board. This provides consistent tracking of our progress by sustainability theme and Business Unit.
Brand and Reputation Committee
Barclays Brand and Reputation Committee is a sub-committee of the Group Executive Committee. Its role is to identify and manage issues that could have a significant impact on our reputation.
Community Partnerships Committee
The Community Partnerships Committee, chaired by Barclays Group Chairman Marcus Aguis, provides governance for our global community investment programmes.
Group Operating Committee
The Group Operating Committee gives direction and governance to our environmental and climate change strategies.
Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) Forum
The Treating Customers Fairly Forum monitors progress across all our retail and wholesale Business Units worldwide, to ensure TCF principles are addressed in our relationships with customers.
