Targets and performance
To ensure that we are progressing our sustainability agenda, we set both quantitative and qualitative targets and monitor performance at regular intervals. We have reported progress against 2008 targets and have developed new targets for 2009.
We introduced an internal monitoring framework that uses a broad set of key performance indicators to consistently assess progress by sustainability theme and Business Unit. Progress is reported to the Board and Group Executive Commitee every six months.

We also follow the Global Reporting Initiative framework and have reported against core G3 Indicator protocols along with the Financial Sector Supplement.

Targets for 2009
We have set a range of qualitative and quantitative targets to deliver in 2009. Some apply globally while others are focused on specific businesses or regions.

We have reported against the Global Reporting Initiative G3 Indicator protocols and its Financial Sector Supplement.
