Make a Difference Day

22 August 2008 (Global)

What: Make a Difference Day
Where: Global
When: 22 August 2008

Following unprecedented success in 2007, Barclays Community Service Volunteers Make a Difference Day launches today.
The aim of the event is to encourage colleagues across the global business to give their time, not just their money, to make a positive impact on the local community.
To support volunteering, Barclays offers employees the chance to take time during the working day to get involved in the causes they care about. And grants are available to pay for vital materials and expenses for community projects.
In 2007, 16,389 colleagues took part in more than 1,000 projects across 26 countries – an increased in participants of 40 per cent on the previous year. They were joined by 4,356 customers, suppliers, friends and relatives.

What: StreetChance gets started
Where: London, UK
When: 15 July 2008
Barclays Spaces for Sports programme is supporting disadvantaged young people affected by crime and anti-social behaviour in London, UK.
Under the three-year StreetChance project, coaches in 10 London areas will hold weekly sessions where youngsters will learn to play Street 20 cricket, a fast-paced, informal version of the game. And every coach has been trained in helping young people develop vital skills in communication, aggression management and self-confidence.
StreetChance is also supported by the Metropolitan Police Service in London, Home Office-funded social inclusion project Positive Futures, and charities Chance to Shine and Cricket for Change.
