Cycling star David Stone, double gold medal winner at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, launches a new Barclays Spaces for Sports site in the UK today.
The facility at Bierlow Park, South Yorkshire, is being opened after a £50,000 cash injection from Barclays and support from environmental regeneration charity Groundwork UK.
The BMX track and starter ramp will receive a further £20,000 from Barclays as development funding to ensure its long-term future.
David Stone will be joined by local youngsters at the launch, who will take part in cycling activities and races.
“It’s great that Barclays Spaces for Sports has invested in this new track in Brampton Bierlow,” he said. “It will be a major benefit to the local community, and especially young people, giving them a great opportunity to enjoying BMX riding, encouraging them to keep fit, lead healthier lifestyles and potentially helping to produce the next top British riders.”
Lee Cartwright, Rotherham Branch Manager for Barclays, added: “Barclays believes that sport has a key role to play in revitalising our communities and sites like this one in Brampton Bierlow are central to this.”
