Supply chain
The carbon emissions generated by suppliers is an increasingly important element of every company's indirect impacts on the environment. Barclays engages with suppliers to promote responsible practice in this area.
Corporate citizenship has to go beyond giving. It must be inclusive of our obligations to manage the social and environmental impacts of what we do.
As well as managing sustainability across the Barclays Group worldwide, we also monitor the environmental and ethical standards to which our supply chain partners work.
Sustainability is part of our supplier selection process , and we insist businesses tendering for work in categories which pose a high sustainability risk provide us with information on their own sustainability practices.
They do this by completing our Supply Chain Corporate Responsibility Questionnaire. Developed in July 2008 with fellow members of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply Financial Services Purchasing Forum, the questionnaire has been completed by Barclays suppliers all over the world.
The answers suppliers provide help us to identify areas where they may need help from us to reach the sustainability standards we expect, and how we could collaborate with them on sustainability initiatives.
Throughout the process of selecting suppliers, Barclays Sourcing Managers work with representatives from the companies involved, finding out more about environmental and social benefits of the products or services being sourced.
“Corporate citizenship has to go beyond giving. It must be inclusive of our obligations to manage the social and environmental impacts of what we do.”
