London cycle schemes

Barclays is the sponsor of Barclays Cycle Hire and Barclays Cycle Superhighways. These flagships schemes provide the public with a low-cost, sustainable and environmentally friendly way of getting around the capital.

Barclays Cycle Hire:

  • Provides over 8,300 cycles at over 570 docking stations across 65km2 of London
  • The public are able to hire bikes for short journeys throughout central London, with each half hour journey being free once they have paid their registration fee.

Barclays Cycle Superhighways:

  • Clearly marked cycles routes designed to make it quicker, easier and safer for Londoners to commute by bicycle between outer and inner London
  • Two pilot routes were launched in July 2010, CS7 Merton to the City and CS3 Barking to Tower Gateway, with two additional routes, CS8 Wandsworth to Westminster and CS2 Bow to Aldgate, launched in July 2011
  • A further eight routes are proposed to open by the end of 2015, which will run through 25 London boroughs.

The sponsorships bring the Barclays brand to London - an iconic city and one in which Barclays has its global headquarters - in an eye catching and innovative way.

Investment in cycling is important for London's economy and to London's business community. More cyclists on London's roads will help to create a more friendly and attractive city with more pleasant shared spaces.
