Capital and funding strategy

We optimise the level and mix of our capital resources, while ensuring prudent risk management at all times. Barclays manages its funding position to comply with regulatory requirements prescribed by the UK FSA and to meet the higher standards for prudent liquidity management set by the Board.

Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC (the 'Issuers'), have established a £60bn Debt Issuance Programme.

Under the programme, established through Barclays Treasury, the Issuers can issue a variety of debt instruments, including senior notes and dated or undated capital notes. There are a number of other programmes in existence which have been established for multi-currency short- and long-term funding purposes. We also raise capital and senior debt through a variety of standalone structures.

Barclays has a strong history of managing our capital ratios.

Find information about our historic capital ratios, including our Core Tier 1 Ratio, Tier 1 Ratio and Risk Asset Ratio.

Secured funding
